[trigger warning for eating disorders, body shaming]
I am most definitely sick and tired of seeing this picture float around on Tumblr, and I am even more tired of the amount of people idolizing Kat Dennings for touching on such a sore subject that is both self-destructive, and damaging.
Anorexia is not a diet or a choice.
Bulimia is not a diet or a choice.
You can tell me that I’m being too touchy and serious, but I can tell you that you’re being idiotic and insensitive.
Kat Dennings must’ve insinuated that any person with an eating disorder is either choosing that for themselves, or that they’re shallow and vain.
Eating Disorders are deadly and detrimental to a person’s health, so why would that be okay to joke about? If I am uncomfortable with something or do not agree with a person’s differing life style choices, does that permit me to slander any part of it because I don’t particularly understand it?
Another thing that bothers me about this picture is that people are tagging it with “Real women have curves”, and what’s the deal with that, lately? Also, “Real men want bust and fat, not skinny and flat.” That might be realistic, but not it’s true whatsoever. Real men have THEIR OWN SET OF PREFERENCES, AND IF THEY LIKE BUSTY AND FAT, OR SKINNY AND FLAT, LET THEM. STOP ALLOWING IT TO OFFEND YOU.
You do NOT need to bash one body type to promote another. You do NOT need to ridicule one life style to glamorize your own.
